Top 5 things Labor is doing to relieve cost of living pressure

1. Free PT for everyone for the month of April

(Fuel prices are rising and it's putting households under pressure. That’s why the Allan Labor Government will deliver one month of free public transport from Tuesday 31 March. That means free trains, trams and buses – metro and V/Line – every day until the end of April, for everyone.

2. Free Public transport travel for under 18’s every day and for seniors on Weekends across the whole network

As of 1 January, 2026, kids and teens under 18 are able to travel on public transport for nothing – absolutely free with the new youth myki. This’ll help families save up to $755 per child, per year. For seniors, carers and disability support workers, public transport is free across the whole network every weekend.

3. Daily Fuel Price Cap

We have introduced new laws which mean fuel retailers must set a daily cap on fuel prices and publish the price in advance. Under this scheme, you can find the best deal tonight and know the maximum price will be set for the next day. We have increased enforcement of these rules through Consumer Affairs Victoria. We have also appointed an energy controller within the State Control Centre able to monitor and prepare – and escalate as necessary.

4. Servo Saver App

The Allan Labor Government has launched Servo Saver in the Service Victoria app - a simple way to check real-time fuel prices before you fill up. Consumers will be able to see prices from 1,200+ retailers statewide and save up to $333 a year by choosing the best deal near you or along your route.

5. Three hours of Free power for Victorians

From 1st of October 2026 Victorians will be able to access three hours of free power in the middle of the day, every day of the week. This could save families up to $300 per year off their energy bills, and up to $1,070 if they have solar panels and batteries.
